Hi everyone! My name is Frederick. Originally from Atlanta GA, but recently relocated from Tokyo, Japan to Sydney. I’m a full-time fashion / commercial photographer and I run and operate a film camera business with my partner here in Sydney.

I bought my first film camera from a local film camera shop in Nakano, Tokyo in 2015. It was a Contax TVS. I shot with it just for fun at parties and events. At the time I was timid from using film due to my lack of knowledge and how the process works. Shooting digital was how I learned photography and film was not something I even considered when I first learned the craft. It was all JPEGS and RAW files for me. Fast-forward a few years later, shooting film has completely evolved my portfolio and changed my perspective and appreciation for photography, at a different level. I always say film has the “type of integrity” digital photos lack and now can honestly say I prefer shooting film over digital.

In this post, I'll be sharing my first roll with the Pentax 67 with SMC 75mm Lens and using 120 film - Ektar100 and Fuji Provia100. Both positive film. This shoot I wanted to use natural lighting. The location, Baker Street Studios, studio A has amazing natural light and high ceilings that provide a soft light throughout the space.

Honestly, when I first seen the Pentax 6x7 I was intimidated by how huge it was. The mirror clap alone will wake an entire village. LOL. With that said this camera is arguably one of my favourite cameras I ever shot with. I have quite a few cameras and have shot with many medium formats. (Mamiya 6 and 7, RZ Pro II , Bronica RF645 and FujiFilm GW690) The Pentax 67 SLR feel takes all for me. Super easy to use, beautiful optics and a huge finder. It’s perfect.

If I could point to one single flaw or dislike, it's a bit bulky and hard to travel with. You can always buy the wooden grip which is great when you’re on shoots. It helps with easier handling.

After I got my first roll back from this camera the negatives were just stunning. The files can be blown up quite large. Perfect for prints and even billboards if that's what your after. For someone shooting beauty, fashion or portraits, I’d totally recommend the Pentax 6x7 Series. A-MAZING! I love this camera. You don’t have to take my word for it just ask the greats, such as Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchlier, Albert Watson, Peter Lingbergh and Mario Testino.
